Question about the date 12/13/14.

Directrix (directrix):

Statement of problem is attached.

OpenStudy (camper4834):

ooooh fun one well lets see

OpenStudy (camper4834):

there will be no more

OpenStudy (camper4834):

let me ask you this what will happen next year? 13/14/15?

OpenStudy (camper4834):

well there is no month 13 what about 14/15/16

Directrix (directrix):

There is an integer answer here and it is not zero.

Directrix (directrix):

The 12/13/14 represents Month/Date/Year.

OpenStudy (camper4834):

@Directrix can you write the date that will work for NEXT YEAR

OpenStudy (camper4834):

when the date is 15?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 2 3 2 3 4 3 4 5 4 5 6 5 6 7 6 7 8 7 8 9 8 9 10 9 10 11 10 11 12 11 12 13 12 13 14 only :) since any extra year would be 2 digits number such that year-2 >12 which is more than numbers of months

Directrix (directrix):

@can you write the date that will work for NEXT YEAR Is there one in 2015 that lies in the span of 2000 - 2099? If so, then yes.

OpenStudy (camper4834):

\[\begin{array}{|c|c|c|}\hline1 & 2 & 3\\2 & 3 & 4\\3 & 4 & 5\\4 & 5 & 6\\5 & 6 & 7\\6 & 7 & 8\\7 & 8 & 9\\8 & 9 & 10\\9 & 10 & 11\\10 & 11 & 12\\11 & 12 & 13\\12 & 13 & 14\\\hline\end{array}\]

Miracrown (miracrown):

The longest a month can go is 31 days, so any year past 2031 will not have this pattern

OpenStudy (anonymous):

eh , what about months :|

Miracrown (miracrown):

The main reason is that months have either 28,29,30, or 31 days

OpenStudy (camper4834):

@Miracrown you are forgetting that months can only go up to 12.....

OpenStudy (camper4834):

what happens then

Miracrown (miracrown):

Yep, that also restricts it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

that is not even a problem mira :-| its just a stupid question to say the day after tomorrow is special

OpenStudy (camper4834):

?

OpenStudy (camper4834):

did i miss something?

Miracrown (miracrown):

So if we tried a date like: 12/32/33 that would not make any sense So I think that 12/13/14 is the last type of pattern this century

Miracrown (miracrown):

Now we can look for the other ones before that 1/2/03 Does that count or does the zero wreck the pattern?

Miracrown (miracrown):

It is a matter of opinion I suppose. So you could present both types

Miracrown (miracrown):

http://prntscr.com/5fji9s Those are all the possibilities ^

Miracrown (miracrown):

So the answer is either 12 or 5 depending on whether the zero wrecks the pattern

Directrix (directrix):

@Miracrown So, after this Saturday, it will be January 2, 2103 before this happens again?

Miracrown (miracrown):

Yep, I think so

OpenStudy (camper4834):

yes

Directrix (directrix):

Thanks to all posters in thread.

Miracrown (miracrown):

yw :)
