What is unit vector ? why we find it in every question

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

If you think of a vector in \(\mathbb{R}\) then you can think of it as a arrow \(\huge \rightarrow\). Now a vector has a length and direction, a unit vector just takes the vector and makes it length of \(1\).

but why we find unit vector?

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

say we have a vector <2,3> Then we want to use the same direction, but not the same size. Say we want it to have a magnitude of 4 Well what do you multiply that vector by to make it length 4? First make it a unit vector by dividing the components by the magnitude, then multiply each component by 4. BAM! It now has length 4.

ok thank you
