I wouldn't say hard to roll, since it's saying it's a hard thing to do, and I wouldn't say loved winter ice skating, since that isn't rollerskating, and been around since early 1700's just says that it's been around for a while. D is correct.
I agree with @Oscarmenot , the answer is likely D. It's hard to know for sure because the original text is not included in your question, but of the answer choices, D seems like the one that most shows that the author has a positive point of view of roller skating.
