Identify the sentence type. But, pending a time when no people wish me to go and see them, and I have no wish to go and see anyone, and there is nothing whatever for me to do off my own premises, I never will go out for a walk. A. loose B. balanced C. periodic @Oscarmenot could you help me with this one too?
I actually don't know the answer to this one. Sorry :/
No problem :) Thank you for looking at it!
Loose has main point in beginning. So you think this is loose or periodic? It doesn't seem like balanced . what do you think ? (:
I'm pretty sure that this is a periodic, right? Because doesn't a periodic need the ending to make the sentence complete? @~*Ashtyn*~
A loose sentence is used to state your point, then use the rest of the sentence to follow up with details. A balanced sentence is one that is made up of two parts which are about equal in length, importance, and grammatical structure. An example of a balanced sentence would be, "To err is human, to forgive divine." A periodic sentence is longer and more complicated than the other two types of sentences, and usually does not state the point until the end of the sentence. The reader is in suspense up until the end of the sentence, where everything is made clear. "But, pending a time when no people wish me to go and see them, and I have no wish to go and see anyone, and there is nothing whatever for me to do off my own premises, I never will go out for a walk." This sentence is obviously not balanced, as there are several parts of different lengths that make up the sentence. It's not straight and to the point like a loose sentence, either. So, it would be safe to say that this is a periodic sentence. The point of the sentence, where the writer states "I never will go out for a walk" is not said until the end of the sentence, and the thought is drawn out from the beginning until the point is made, leaving the reader in suspense for the duration of the sentence.
Thank you so much @Stormwolf1O1! You explained this so much more clearly than my lesson did!
