1. The Muhahideen were the Afghan resistance that fought the Soviets and whom the United States aided with supplies and weapons like Stingers. 2. Viewnam is what a lot of people were comparing the Soviet situation to since the conditions seemed to be very similar -- a vast, professional army continually harassed by a smaller, more fragmented, enemy that they could not decisively defeat.
