On hundred twenty-five tickets have been sold for an event at a local theater. If this represents 25% of the capacity for the theater, which of the following is the capacity? a. 410 b. 156 c. 500 d. 375
i am confused i think its 500 but then again it can be 125
Hi efair, What ideas do you have for this problem?
25% is 1/4 so take 25 tickets and multiply it by 4
well if i divided 125 into 25% i get 500
i also added 125+25% and got 156.25
Alright, I recommend using a technique called "is over percent equals x over 100"
Since 125 is 25% we can make a proportion:
oh whoops its 125 sorry i thought is was 25, so 125 * 4
so i turn
it i
\[\frac{ 125 }{ 25% } = \frac{ x }{ 100 }\]
Are you familiar with variables, efair? And proportions? Please feel free to ask me a question if the equation I wrote is confusing.
okay so i divided i put 25x and divided that by 12,500 i got 500
You got it!
ye
yes thank you
Does what we did make sense to you?
y
