in 12 hours. how much heat energy does the incandescent bulb give off? please help me with this question....@geny55

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You need to provide the power rating of the bulb i.e., the wattage.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

an Incandescent light bulb has a power of 60 W and an efficiency of 1.7%.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I assume the efficiency is the amount of the power used to produce light . so the percentage of the power for heat production is 100%-1.76% = 98.4%. So the amount of power for heat production is 60x.894 = 58.9 watts. Now 1 watt is 1 joule/second. and energy = power rating x time = 58.9joules/sec x 12 hrs x 3600 sec/hr= ? to put this in perspective 1 joule = .2389 calories and 1 calorie will raise the temperature of 1 gram of water 1 deg C. So how much can you raise the temperature of 5 gal. (3.7 L) of water? I did the math and its about 33 deg C.
