OpenStudy (redheadangel):
the parameter 'p' is HALF the distance between the focus and the directrix. find that distance, and then take half of it to obtain the value of 'p'. Next, use the general equation 4p(y-k)=(x-h)^2 to obtain the equation of the given parabola. If you're not sure what to do, do as much as you can and ask for clarification regarding whatever is unclear for you.
