How has Europe changed demographically and religiously over the last few centuries?

During the medieval ages Europe was totally controlled by the Catholic church, The Holy Roman Empire. It is no longer that way, thanks to the Scientific revolution and humanist ideas. After that, just in the 1900's, the Nazi's drove many Jewish people out of other countries. Some left Britain, some fled to Britain and the population rose and dropped.
