Air is made up of about 21% oxygen and 78% nitrogen. In this solution, oxygen is the _____ and nitrogen is the _____. A. solute; solvent B. solvent; solute C. element; compound D. compound; element
Oxygen is the solute where as the nitrogen is the solvent
https://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20130319144048AAUZKdB Aleman is correct. Simply using logic you can make a guess that the larger amount is the substance doing the dissolving. A and D don't make sense because both oxygen and nitrogen are elements!
I mean C and D! Solvent=substance doing the dissolving (think water!) solute= substance being dissolved (think salt!) element=pure natural (for most) chemical substance made of ONLY one type of atom that cannot be separated by normal chemical means Compund= something composed of two or more elements in a fixed ratio (H20!!)
