I need to understand the processes of the following: "The scale drawing can be used to approximate the area where a colony of 3,000 ants live. What is the population density of ants per square foot? Round to the nearest whole number."

Well, if you make the parts of the circle into squares, they're six-by-six, so they'd be thirty-six tiles each. But at least five of the tiles of each square would not be used, as seen here:
