Admission to the zoo is $6 for children and $9 for adults. On a certain day, 1480 people go to the zoo and $10,500 is collected. How many children and how many adults went to the zoo? children adults
lets put \(x\) as the number of adults, since that is what you are looking for then since the total is \(1480\) that means \[1480-x\] is the number of children the adults spent $9 each for a total of \(9x\) and the children spent $6 each for a total of \(6(1480-x)\)
you are told that the amount spent in all was \(10,500\) therefore set \[9x+6(1480-x)=10500\] and you can solve for \(x\)
