I have an idea for a new feature, or at least something that will be used for improvements When it comes to reporting, people just.... Well, don't. So why not for the chats, have some sort of script in it, so that it can detect spam, excessive cursing, etc. It could use timers for spam, and character counts too, and then for cursing, it can count the curse words all the way up to some number mods agree on or something like that. Sure, people might try to bypass this somehow, but it would make things easier for the mods. The script could send automatic reports to the mods for them to see
Or, even better, it can automatically kick them off the chats for a certain period of time so that the mods don't even have to deal with the trolls.
This is a good idea.
Nah, because what if there was a flaw in the system, or maybe it just misinterpreted something as spam? Maybe it could send the user a warning too?
That would work, maybe a limited amount of warnings. Like, they can only do it 3 times before they are kicked out and a mod is contacted.
Although maybe it could kick them off for a short time period, for increasing times per kick? Like, 5 minutes the first time, 10 the next, then 15, and then maybe a day, and so forth?
That too.
I guess that would be similar to what you said too. I don't see why this shouldn't be implemented, it would make things easier for the mods and better for the users, at least in my opinion!
All that is needed now is just to be patient now and wait for more people to see it.
Thanks for the support then!
No problem lol
It would take a lot of work... But we still have a community suspension. If 5 people report one person within s short amount of time, he will be kicked off of OpenStudy and won't be able to log on until 24 hours has passed.
That would be a good idea and also people who spam and excessively curse could get mailbanned for a whole day and if it continues suspension until they clean up there behaivor.
The Openstudy team is Lazy They won't have time nor the effort to do it cx
FIrst they should fix the orange wars from never occuring and then the lagging issues :P
@TheSmartOne Not that much work. You dump some chat logs into SpamAssassin tagged as good and bad. Then tweak the Bayesian results you get until you have a bot that will auto warn and auto suspend people based on their history and the content.
^ lol they should have still let people gaive their own warnings with the java script :P It would scare people and they might stop...
I like the idea about kicking spammers out of the chats.
@confluxepic For that, I would have the bot, when it IDs a spammer, just delete things as they are posted. Since it is a bot, the speed would be very fast.
i agree that they may detect spamming but for excessive cursing... i don't think so.. i just remembered an OS user who replaces all the curse words into words related to birds lol... anyway i like the idea :D but this suggestion is probably be in the 1000000th list (or more) of suggestions that the Openstudy team is reviewing.. maybe you can post it here: http://openstudyfeedback.uservoice.com/forums/95895?lang=en then give us the link so that we can vote for it (not sure if this will work though)
It's an auto correct to change cuss words to become something related to birds.
^ yes that is the filter working...
Yeah. For example I will write John Hanwingspan. It will change the last 4 letters of his name to wingspan. Once posted it will say John Hanwingspan.
See. Like that.
And if I am not wrong.. I took that screenshot.. lol
yes @TheSmartOne that's from your post xD sorry, next time i'll put where i get it
Heh, I'm at least glad that people are noticing this
Nah there is no need @Data_LG2 I saw it and remembered it :P
lol i thought about suggesting this... but its actually even WORSE... it would cause more problems then solve
hey, can't we make the same feature for site (itself) as well? we would fire the moderators.... jk
@Jaynator495 why do you think it would cause more problems? O.o
many reasons i dont have time atm to explain... ill go further into depth at another time... heck ill even make a tutorial on it xD
A tutorial on how this will cause a problem.... Makes sense sorta kinda maybe?
well, Jaynator is probably thinking of a problem that a machine might not notice when a human will, or it will expand for something that a human can forgive.... I also don't support this. It's is sort of having a machine-moderator, as opposed to a "normal" (human) moderator.
(I meant suspend not expand in my 2nd line)
lol
Well, I was just thinking that it could work like an aid, of course this could just be implemented with modifications from the original idea, maybe it can just auto-report instead of just kicking, it can still be beneficial
perhaps it CAN be beneficial.... I am not a "fixer" (excuse me for this word) of this website.
