Summary- George shoots Lennie it shows that he cared for Lennie and knew that if he let the others find him they would torture him. Steinbeck shows that, in Lennie's case, people with mental illnesses were treated as inferior and misunderstood with little help in their situations. It also shows that when people are prisoners to their status, such as Curly's wife, you are driven to do dramatic and attention seeking acts that cause trouble of everyone.
