Why did W.E.B. Du Bois criticize Booker T. Washington? He criticized Washington’s passive and cautious ways. He criticized Washington’s aggressive and violent methods. He criticized Washington’s wavering and changing views. He criticized Washington’s extreme campaigns that involved hunger strikes. He criticized Washington’s radical methods that refused segregation of races.

Buis believed in doing things gradually. He thought that the African Americans should "pull themselves from their bootstraps" and through living as great, American citizens who are moral and hardworkers--through all this they could earn their citizenship and rights. Washington believed in massive extreme campaigns. Even if violence was necessary.
