2x + 10 < 5 --- subtract 10 from both sides 2x < 5 - 10 2x < -5 -- divide both sides by 2 x < -5/2 x - 7 > 3 -- add 7 to both sides x > 3 + 7 x > 10 so we have x < -5/2 and x > 10
