Federalism is the sharing of power between national and state governments. Without it there would be no individual states, and the national goverment would be in charge.

Federalism is the distribution of power in an organization. My dictionary definition of federalism is: "Federalism is a system of government in which entities such as states or provinces share power with a national government. The United States government functions according to the principles of federalism."
