A student was given the problem (3 x 6) – 2 +6 and asked to evaluate. The student’s answer was 10, what did he do wrong? (Make sure you SHOW your work.)

A student was given the problem (3 x 6) – 2 +6 and asked to evaluate.  The student’s answer was 10, what did he do wrong?  (Make sure you SHOW your work.)

The student ignored the sign on the 6......It is a plus not a minus.

Do the parenthesis first getting 18 now proceed from left to right subtract 2 getting 16 now add the 6 giving you 22 (not 10)
