lame answers! :0 The cell cycle is important because if like everything else in life you need organization! The cell cycle is a series of events the cell has to go to before it replicates. In the cycle there are various checkpoints that it has to go to before it can replicate, however sometimes that can go haywire and the cell can reproduce rapidly without any restraints, hence you get tumors. (note: Only the malignant kinds are known as cancer)
