So I know that two species cannot mate...so what is the criteria for a hybrid to be produced? (I know there must a genetic relationship,but do they have to be the same genus or taxa or what?Damn terms!)

They take the sperm and the egg cell of two different animals and they produce a hybrid its as simple as that.
