what if there are three flies and three parts? upper, middle and lower? 1/2*1/2*1/2=1/8??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

probability

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if an apple is hanging from a string and 4 flies land on it, find the probability that all four land on the same area of the apple if the apple is divided into three parts, upper, lower and middle.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what to do. maybe 1/3 * 1/3* 1/3*1/3 because there are 4 flies and three parts?? final on monday ...possible extra credit problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

.0123??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can anyone tell me if I am correct? I've never used this site before.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the chance is 75% that all of those flies would land on one of those parts. this is how i came to that answer. how many divisors are there (flies) 3 how many dividends are there (apples) 4. so it would be 3/4 or 75%

@bocellibonjovi

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but it is asking the P if they all landed in same area.so 75% of the time they will land in same area?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you said probability, probability is chances. like an example is: theres a spinner with 6 different colors, theres one red, one blue, one green, one purple, and two pinks, whats the probability of you landing on pink? the answer is 2/6 becuase theres two pinks and 6 different colors
