MEDAL AND FAN! A graph is shown below: Which of the following inequalities is best represented by this graph? A) x-3y > 5 B) x-3y < 5 C) x-2y > 5 D) x-2y < 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

will help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okies :3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its greater than because the graph is moving right?

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

the second on ei think

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So that crosses out B and D?

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

B

OpenStudy (anonymous):

: / I dont think its b.... because the y doesn't go to -3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I would think it would be C :o

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

@satellite73

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

@dtuniyants

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Loser66

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Do you know @Loser66 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its my last question for this assignment

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

i still think B

OpenStudy (loser66):

I give you a trick.

OpenStudy (loser66):

if you say the solution is C, that is x-2y >5, right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes

OpenStudy (loser66):

now, pick any point in the graph and test. I pick (1,0) ok?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

OpenStudy (loser66):

so, x =1, y=0, and 1-2*0 = 1 is it >5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No it is greater than 5

OpenStudy (loser66):

1 <5, right? so C is not a solution.

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

B i think lser66 check

OpenStudy (alexandervonhumboldt2):

pick up a coordinate and check

OpenStudy (loser66):

ok, let's check B) , it is x-3y<5 , just do with (1,0) 1 - 3 *0 =1 < 5 yeah!!!

OpenStudy (loser66):

do other point to make sure. pick (0,1) 0-3*1 =-3 <5 , yeah again.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:3 wonderful! Thank you for helping me @Loser66 and @AlexandervonHumboldt2 ! :D

OpenStudy (michele_laino):

I think A and C can not be your answer because they provide points, whose y is y<... I think neither D is your answer because the line should b have the equation x-2y=5, which is not your line. So by exclusion I think D.
