Find x if the average of 20, 20, 19, 13, and x is 16. A. 6 B. 8 C. 9 D. 10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@ganeshie8 ?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

So you need the average of 20, 20, 19, 13, and 16?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I guess so @sleepyjess

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Ok, so you need to add all of the numbers up, then divide by 5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okie dokie.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

17.6 @sleepyjess

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Are there any answer choices?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Their posted with the question @sleepyjess

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Oh, sorry

OpenStudy (anonymous):

its okay =)

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

OH OH OH I get what they are saying

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

They want you to find the value of x if the average is 16, so use each option and add it to 20, 20, 19, and 13 then divide by 5 and see which one give you 16

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So which one do you think is correct? @sleepyjess

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Have you done what I said with the options given?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yes, I'm struggling though.

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Can you show me what you have done?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Or, you can do 16*5 to get the total of all the numbers and see which numbers add up to that total.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well, let me make sure I'm doing it right. I need to add each option seperatly to 20, 20, 19 and 13 adn see which option gives me 16. Correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@sleepyjess hello?

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Sorry was afk. You need to add 20, 20, 19, 13, and one option for x each time then divide that total by 5 to see which option gives you 16.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B. 8! @sleepyjess

OpenStudy (sleepyjess):

Yes!
