(z - 5) x (z - 2)

OpenStudy (unanimoose):

Is that (z - 5)(z - 2)?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes @Unanimoose

OpenStudy (unanimoose):

If so we can distribute z into z and -2, and then 5 into z and -2. z * z = ? z * -2 = ? -5 * z = ? -5 * -2 = ? Solve all these and then combine like terms

OpenStudy (anonymous):

z*z=z^2 i dont know the second one -5*z= -5z -5*-2=10

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Unanimoose

OpenStudy (unanimoose):

z * -2 is the same as -2 * z. :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so whats the answer?

OpenStudy (unanimoose):

So it would be like -5 * z but with -2.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

answer?

OpenStudy (unanimoose):

So we have: z^2 - 2z - 5z + 10 Do you know which terms are like terms?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

2z & 5z

OpenStudy (unanimoose):

Yeah, but they are negative. What do we get when we combine them?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

-7z

OpenStudy (unanimoose):

Yep, so just put that in as the second term and you have your final form.
