A couch and a coffee table cost a total of $975. The cost of the couch is two times the cost of the coffee table. find the cost of each item

OpenStudy (anonymous):

divide by 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

c stands for couch x stands for coffee table x + c = 975 c = 2x now sub 2x in for c in the 1st equation and solve for c ( the couch) and once that is found, sub that value back in the 2nd equation and solve for x (the coffee table). Give it a try and if you are still " stuck ", I will be happy to help :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oops..my bad...you would solve for x (the coffee table) first...and then the couch

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok i got 325 now what?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now you are done \[975\div 3=325\] so the coffee table was \($375\) and the couch is \(\$650\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i still dont get it i got the 325 but now what where do i plug that into.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thats what i ad gotten but i wasnt sure which one was which but thank you :)
