c stands for couch
x stands for coffee table

x + c = 975
c = 2x

now sub 2x in for c in the 1st equation and solve for c ( the couch)
and once that is found, sub that value back in the 2nd equation and solve for x (the coffee table). Give it a try and if you are still " stuck ", I will be happy to help :)

$$975\div 3=325$$ so the coffee table was 
$$375$ and the couch is $\$650$
