Can anybody help me? Determine if the two figures are congruent and explain your answer. If they are congruent, tell which rigid motions were used.
judt a sec
use the distance formula to determine if sides are equal. Then using slope formula compare slpes of sides to each other and check for equal angles.
there are not congruent because one of the shapes over laped the line
@Secret-Ninja, can you help?
I'm very confused :/
@dtuniyants, are they not congruent?
znappy look at the picture and look at the shape they are not congruent ok
Congruent polygons have an equal number of sides, and all the corresponding sides and angles are congruent. However, they can be in a different location, rotated or flipped over.
"Determine if the two figures are congruent and explain your answer." Now you have your explanation, you just have to say yes or no to whether they are or aren't congruent. What do you think?
The shapes are, in fact, congruent. @ihoppers is incorrect.
the figure ABCDE was rotated 180 deg clockwise around point (0, 1) just a sec I need to solve check their congruence by myself.
"If they are congruent" (which they are), tell which rigid motions were used." A rigid motion is any transformation, as a translation or rotation, of a set such that the distance between points is preserved.
So, this is congruent?
The shape was rotated at a 180 degrees angle and shifted to the right.
SInce they both have 4 sides, in total it's 8.. am I correct?
The 2 figures are congruent because they both have an equal number of points. Does that sound good?
The 2 figures are congruent because they both have an equal number of points. The shape was rotated at a 180 degrees angle and shifted to the right. Should I write that?
You should also include that they have the same number of sides, that the angles are all the same length and that it is the same size.
Good job. :)
Thank you so much! Can you help me in another one I have?
CD=sqrt((-4-0)2+(5-4)2)=sqrt(16+2)=sqrt18=sqrt(9*2)=3sqrt2 AD also equals 3sqrt2. SO do EH and GH, so CD=AD=EH=GH. solve for EF, FG, CB and AB. They are all coungruent and equal to sqrt5. So the corresponding sides are equal. Now find the slope of each side (I will only write a slope, I hope you know what the slope formula is) m(AB)=-0.5 m(EF)=-0.5 m(CB)=-2 m(FG)=-2 m(CD)=0.25 m(DH)=0.25 m(AD)=4 m(EH)=4 Look at the slopes. You can see that angles will be equal.
Thank you @dtuniyants and @Secret-Ninja :)
Could either of you help me on the next one?
So the figures are congruent.
yes
