x+x+x=18 what is x

@kelliegirl33

OpenStudy (one098):

Is that the exact question you have?

OpenStudy (compassionate):

x is a variable. x can be any number. It's say, "When you add three numbers together (x) the result is 18." For example 1 + 2 + 15 = 18 Here, our x's are 1, 2 and 15, because when you add them all up, you get 18.

OpenStudy (catlover5925):

but @Compassionate if it was 1, 2, 15 the varibles would be X, Y, and Z because they are 3 diffrent numbers....X should represent 1 number so take 18 and divide it by 3

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

@compassionate x is one number it cannot be 1 2 15 at the same time x+x+x is some number add to itself 3 times which is the same thing as 3x

OpenStudy (xapproachesinfinity):

3 different number equaling 18 would be written as x+y+z=18 some x and y and some z gives us 18

OpenStudy (one098):

What number times 3 gives you 18?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks best method @One098

OpenStudy (one098):

You're welcome!
