will Fan :D PLease help Which words make up the adverb phrase in the sentence? Which word does the adverb phrase modify? Most amphibians lay their eggs in water. A. lay their; modifies eggs B. in water; modifies lay C. Most amphibians; modifies lay D. in water; modifies eggs

OpenStudy (anonymous):

any one D: ???????//

OpenStudy (asett):

First, identify the adverb phrase: that would be "in water" because it answers the question where, an adverb question. Then we realize that out of the choices B and D (the two with "in water"), only choice B claims that the adverb phrase is modifying "lay", which is the verb in the sentence (adverbs can only modify verbs, adjectives, and other adverbs). So the correct answer is B!
