Lady Macbeth Act I scene V: Glamis thou art, and Cawdor; and shalt be What thou art promised. Yet do I fear thy nature; It is too full o' th' milk of human kindness To catch the nearest way: thou wouldst be great, Art not without ambition, but without The illness should attend it. What thou wouldst highly, That wouldst thou holily; wouldst not play false, And yet wouldst wrongly win. Thou'ld’st have, great Glamis, That which cries, “Thus thou must do,” if thou have it, And that which rather thou dost fear to do, Than wishest should be undone. Hie thee hither, That I may pour my spirits in thine ear And chastise with the valor of my tongue All that impedes thee from the golden round, Which fate and metaphysical aid doth seem To have thee crowned withal. Macbeth Act I Scene VII: He’s here in double trust: First, as I am his kinsman and his subject, Strong both against the deed; then, as his host, Who should against his murderer shut the door, Not bear the knife myself. Besides, this Duncan Hath borne his faculties so meek, hath been So clear in his great office, that his virtues Will plead like angels, trumpet-tongued, against The deep damnation of his taking-off; And pity, like a naked newborn babe, Striding the blast, or heaven’s cherubim, horsed Upon the sightless couriers of the air, Shall blow the horrid deed in every eye, That tears shall drown the wind. I have no spur To wingspan the sides of my intent, but only Vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself And falls on th' other. Use the excerpts from Macbeth to complete the following task: Write a 3 paragraph essay supporting the assertion that Lady Macbeth both waiver between extreme confidence and great doubt. Be sure to include evidence from the text to support your answer. Remember to clearly state your main point and use correct citations in your response.

The response paper will be easy when you focus on the character analysis of Lady Macbeth. Things to know about her: a. She know what she wants and plans to do anything to get it, hereby showing her as a strong willed character. b. She is very focused on her goal(being queen) and will stop at nothing, even ready to lose her feminine qualities(gentle, soft, sweet tempered) in favor of blood lust and warrior-like toughness required for her ordeal. c. She lacks any moral, giving her the confidence perform any action to further her interest; while her husband(Macbeth) is still ruled by his conscience and therefore, cannot exercise his free will as freely. d. Macbeth is related to the king, he shows kindness, feels pity, and he is afraid that since the king has been good to his subjects, his killing, once known, will evoke pity for the king and hate for the Macbeth family from the general populace. So, we can say that she has extreme confidence in herself while she has doubt about her husband because of his character. Note: read the no fear shakespeare from sparknotes for scene I act v and vii to find the evidence from the text. Good Luck!
