OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

If a normal distribution has a mean of 44 and a standard deviation of 8, what is the z-score for a value of 46?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

use the formula z = (x-mu)/sigma

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

mu = 44 (population mean) sigma = 8 (population standard deviation

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

raw score: x = 46 z-score: z = unknown (for now)

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

yea i just wanted to check my answer, i got 1/4

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes or 0.25

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

it's probably better to convert to decimal notation so you can use a table when it comes to looking up areas under the curve

OpenStudy (hockeychick23):

ok thanks!
