Help Please! Medals for help! Create a quadratic function, f(x), in vertex form. The a should be between 4 and –4, the h will be your birth month, and the k will be your birth day. Write your equation below. Using complete sentences, explain how to convert your birthday function into standard form. Graph your function. Include your graph below. Using complete sentences, explain how to find the average rate of change for f(x) from x = 4 to x = 7.

My birthday is 10/7

@jim_thompson5910 can you help?

So this is vertex form \[y=a(x-h)^2+k\] So plugging in those numbers (assuming 10 is the month and 7 is the date?) would lead to \[y=(x-10)^2+7\] (for the sake of simplicity, let's just say a=1) To convert to standard form, just expand that \[y=(x-10)(x-10)+7=(x^2-20x+100)+7=x^2-20x+107\]

Okay so for graphing, h is the x-coordinate of the vertex, and translates your graph left to right (translating the x values). The k translates the y-values, so it makes your graph go up and down. So your vertex is (h,k), or (10,7), and the rest of the graph is basically just x^2, translated with the vertex of (10,7). So the graph would look roughly like this: |dw:1418714534635:dw| The scale's off but yeah.
