why does 5xy3 have a dgree of 4

OpenStudy (phi):

the degree is the sum of the exponents of all the variables in the term so x has degree 1 by x*y has degree 2

OpenStudy (igreen):

Count the exponents. \(5xy^3\) x has an exponent of 1. y has an exponent of 3. 3 + 1 = 4 So Degree of 4.

OpenStudy (igreen):
