MEDAL AND FAN! Which of the following inequalities is graphed above?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A) -8x+3y < 1 B) -8x+3y >-1 C) -8x-3y < -1 D) -8x+3y < -1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I dont think its D or C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it is A am I right ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Nnesha

@SolomonZelman

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

you know that the slop is going to be either \(\large\color{black}{ \pm }\)( 8/3 ) . can you tell me if it is positve or negative?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

positive because the graph isnt moving downward

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

you mean moving upward. yes, it's positve.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

so we can see some small y intercept, but it is negative. So, we so far have: y {don't know the sign} (8/3)x - (?) 8y ___ 3x - 1 (we know that the constant is 1 or negative 1) 8y - 3x ___ -1.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

it's kind of hard to explain, but I am sort of going backwards to figure out the equation.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

the line is dashed, but the shaded part is below the line, so what is your sign supposed to be?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

<

OpenStudy (anonymous):

right?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@SolomonZelman ?

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

yes.

OpenStudy (solomonzelman):

\(\large\color{black}{ 8y - 3x >-1 }\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

:D thankies
