Describe the Union military strategy that was executed during the Civil War.

The Union military strategy basically remained the same throughout the whole war, which was to march south to Richmond, while the Navy blockaded the East cost. While other Armies would march around Virginia down in the Tennessee area so they could blockade them form two sides. Does that help? (:
