if 1 person plays all the other players, then i see that 7 games are played

the 1 person leaves and someone new takes their place leaving 6 games to be played

that 1 person leaves and someone new takes their place leaving 5 games to be played

etc ... so 7+6+5+4+3+2+1 seems to be how things are going
