To add two fractions that have the same denominator, add the numerators and write the same denominator. You may need to reduce the resulting fraction. Rule: \(\dfrac{a}{d} + \dfrac{b}{d} = \dfrac{a + b}{d} \) Example: \(\dfrac{2}{5} + \dfrac{1}{5} = \dfrac{2 + 1}{5} = \dfrac{3}{5} \)
