The Berlin wall was built to keep people in. Berlin was going through a brain Drain. This is when all a loocations smart and talented people leave. tHey wanted to keep their smart people in so they could survive. Also if the people in east Germany saw the good life in west Germany they would want to leave and get out. ( If this is wrong i just found it on a history site)
