Suppose a population of 400 crickets doubles in size every 4 months. How many crickets will there be after 2 years?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I came up with 4800 and don't see how it could be over 25,000

OpenStudy (anonymous):

24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

6

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The answer is 25600.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I doubled the crickets so got 800 then I x it by 3 and got 2400 for that year and then took the 2400 x2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yep its 25600

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In two years there are 24 months so I divided 24 by 6 to find the amount of times I needed to double the number.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

and what did u come up with

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I came up with 25600

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1 year = 12 months 4 times 3 =12 1 year is 3 sets of 4 months 2 years have 6 sets of 4 months 400 times 2^(n) 400 times 2^6) 400 times 64 25,600 manually 400 800 1600 3200 6400 12800 25600

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 25600 is right :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1,600 crickets 4,800 crickets 6,400 crickets 25,600 crickets
