Solve by the linear combination method (with or without multiplication).
where are you stuck?
i dont know how to solve it
multiple both sides of the first equation by 0.08, what do you get?
0.08x + 0.08x(0.03y)?
I am really not sure
or is it 0.08x and 0.08xy
@phi please rescue me
x+y= 40 multiply both sides and all terms by 0.08 that means write 0.08 next to each term, can you do that ?
Use the substitution method? x + y = 40 Subtract y to both sides: x = -y + 40 Now substitute -y + 40 in for x in the 2nd equation: 0.08x + 0.03y = 1.7 0.08(-y + 40) + 0.03y = 1.7 Distribute 0.08 into the parenthesis: -0.08y + 3.2 + 0.03y = 1.7 Simplify -0.08y + 0.03y: -0.05y + 3.2 = 1.7 Subtract 3.2 to both sides, what's 1.7 - 3.2?
-1.5
Yep, that gives us: \(-0.05y = -1.5\) Now divide -0.05 to both sides, what's -1.5 / -0.05?
I think the answer is 10,30
You're correct! -1.5 / -0.05 = 30. So that gives us: y = 30 So the y-value is 30. and option C is the only one that has 'y' with 30.
