What does 'framing' mean?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It can mean two different things. One, putting a frame around a portrait. Or, accusing someone of doing something.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

In the second definition, it's more accurately: producing false evidence against (an innocent person) so that they appear guilty.

Since this is the writing section, I will point out that "framing" is also a literary technique. When you have a story within a story, framing is being used. The story at the beginning and end is the "frame" for another story. E.g. in The Princess Bride, the grandpa reading to his grandson is the frame story, and the fairytale story he reads is a story within that story. Also see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frame_story
