Study Island Math skills Bilolgy, please help me I really need to get a blue ribbon on this. I will give a medal to the person who has the correct answer! :) Subtract the following measurements using correct significant digits. 57.1 mi - 0.83 mi A. 60 mi B. 56.27 mi C. 56.4 mi D. 56.3 mi
Its B right
thats what my calculator says
The rules for significant digits are:1.Non-zero digits are always significant. 2.Leading zeros are not significant; 0.045 has 2 significant digits. 3.Zeroes between non-zero digits are always significant; 20.005 has 5 significant digits. 4.Zeroes at the end of a number and to the right of a decimal point are always significant; 45.00 has 4 significant digits. When adding or subtracting, the number of decimal places in the answer will be the same as the least number of decimal places in any of the numbers being added or subtracted. 57.1 mi − 0.83 mi = 56.27 mi 57.1 mi has 1 number to the right of the decimal point. 0.83 mi has 2 numbers to the right of the decimal point. Therefore, the correct answer rounds to 56.3 mi.
I'm not getting this, can yo explain it to me please
57.1 mi - 0.83 mi = 56.27 mi need to round number to smallest sig figs 57.1 3 sig figs 0.83 2 sig figs 56.27 mi \(\approx\) 56 mi i would pick A because it has only sig figs
