Beth is making fruit salad. She adds 5 grapes for every 2 strawberries. If she uses 14 strawberries, how many grapes will she use? 35 10 70 140

OpenStudy (dtan5457):

35. it's ratio. 2:5 2 times 7=14 5 times 7=35

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

You can use a proportion. A proportion is setting two ratios equal. The known ratio is 5 grapes to 2 strawberries, or 5/2. The unknown ratio is x grapes to 14 strawberries, or x/14. Set these ratios equal creating a proportion, and solve for x. \(\dfrac{5}{2} = \dfrac{x}{14} \) Now cross multiply and solve for x.
