OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Why do so many users have the give me the answer now mindset when it does not have as much potential as the growth process mindset? http://youtu.be/_X0mgOOSpLU

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

medals

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

lol

OpenStudy (perl):

some people are trying to finish their homework quickly

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Do we need to change how we give out medals?

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

Perhaps moderators need to approve the giving out of medals.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Probably because most of the people asking for help are just kids who do online work and don't really have anyone to push them towards subjects that will help improve their way of thinking.

OpenStudy (zzr0ck3r):

or we didn't give them answers they would think about it if they want to pass.

OpenStudy (skullpatrol):

If we had more active moderators approving medals and encouraging the growth of learning process we could change this.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I agree

OpenStudy (radar):

The end justifies the means. Instant gratification for unobtainable goals.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Who really cares about medals, honestly? They just need to ban the people giving answers with little to no explanation.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ban their ip address not their account, with a warning or 2 first.

@skullpatrol Go here to see this question you initiated and then look at the OS advertisement "Answers, Anytime, Anywhere." New users who see that may join OS with the notion that this is an answer site. http://openstudy.com/updates/54925f91e4b0df9ad48e77dc

You can't make people be genuinely interested in something. Most people who come here to ask questions are lazy and just want to get their homework done. They should be encouraged to use websites/programs like wolframalpha to solve their exercises so that only the ones that actually want to understand what goes on "behind the scenes" post here. Wasting 30 minutes to write something and then getting "so the answer's 4 ? k,thx" eventually discourages you from going through that process again. It's not our / my fault that the other person's not interested in actually understanding what goes on with math. And sometimes there's nothing really much to explain. Sometimes it's better to just give the answer to someone who can't do a division in his/her 12'th grade. And keep in mind that the principles of the classroom apply here as well - by that I mean the fact that there's nothing more annoying than having someone explain things you're not interested in.

OpenStudy (radar):

Kinda like when someone asks "What time is it"?, then getting an explanation on how to build a clock. But, then we don't want to go overboard, see: http://openstudy.com/study#/updates/5498d884e4b0b8a54fae5501
