Describe why we see color. @DanJS

OpenStudy (danjs):

Because of the electric field and our eyes are designed to pick out wavelengths between certain sizes that fall into the color spectrum

OpenStudy (danjs):

as opposed to radio, cosmic, gamma, exe... we can't see that part

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you explain it in kid words a little better. I didnt really get that. sorry

OpenStudy (danjs):

Not sure about the biology of the eye and the psychology of the brain that really allows us to see color. The parts of the eye, light cones, retna

OpenStudy (danjs):

The sun emits white light and shines on an apple for example. 1. All the "invisible" colors of sunlight shine on the apple. 2. The surface of a red apple absorbs all the colored light rays, except for those corresponding to red, and reflects this color to the human eye. 3. The eye receives the reflected red light and sends a message to the brain.

OpenStudy (danjs):

Color is the visual effect that is caused by the spectral composition of the light emitted, transmitted, or reflected by objects

OpenStudy (danjs):

color is not inherent in objects. Rather, the surface of an object reflects some colors and absorbs all the others. We

OpenStudy (danjs):

Your eyes are covered in light sensitive cells

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is definitely NOT a technical explanation. Light comes in different colors. Certain colors of light cause specific chemical reactions in the cells of our eyes. The colors that can cause reactions in the cells of our eyes are red orange yellow green blue indigo and violet. There are other "colors" out there that our eyes can't see. The colors we can't see are in a way, more red than red, or more violet than violet.

Can you explain it in kid words please?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, let's see...

Light is a wave
