Which of the following pairs of equations represent perpendicular lines? A. y = 4x + 2 and y = 1/4x + 1 B. y = 3x + 5 and y = -3x - 5 C. y = 2x - 7 and y = -1/2x + 4 D. y = 5x - 14 and y = -5x - 14 2. Given the equation y = 2x -5, which of the following ordered pairs is a solution? A. (10, 25) B. (0, -5) C. (4, 1) D. (1, 3) @iGreen.
Perpendicular lines have opposite slope..so which of those options have opposite slopes?
B
No, that's not right.. For the slope of 3 to be opposite, it must be flipped around and changed to negative. 3 is the same thing as 3/1, so flipping it around will give us 1/3, and making it negative will give us -1/3.
But the 2nd one has -3..so B is wrong.
D
@@iGreen.
No..that's wrong also..it's the same exact thing as B..
then i really dont A?
*sigh* No..that's wrong.
It's C because in the first equation, the slope is 2. y = 2x - 7 ^ Slope Perpendicular lines have opposite slope. To make it opposite we flip it and make it negative. 2 is the same thing as 2/1, so if we flip it, it becomes 1/2, and making it negative makes it -1/2. And the 2nd equation has a slope of -1/2, so C is your answer.
