A balloon’s circumference decreases at a constant rate. The graph shows the balloon’s circumference over time. What is the slope of the line that represents the situation? Enter the slope as a decimal. First quadrant grid, x-axis numbered 0 to 11 and labeled Days, y-axis numbered 0 to 10 and labeled Circumference in centimeters. Line passes through labeled points at (5, 5) and (10, 1)

Thats the graphed

@ilovewolf can you help me?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Librarian can you help?

OpenStudy (librarian):

Hi, @TeenWolfGirl unfortunately no I cannot I am not very good with math but people keep pinging me in Math every time I leave the subject. ^_^ I can see if I can find somebody to help you one minute ^_^ - The Librarian, Joshua

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok thanks

OpenStudy (phi):

***What is the slope?*** can you find two points on the line (I hope so, they labeled 2 for you) find the change in y then the change in x slope is change in y divided by change in x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know this will make me sound like an idiot, but what do you mean my change?

OpenStudy (phi):

if you are at (5,5) and "move" to (10,1) how far do you move in the y (up/ down direction) (down is minus, up is plus) that is the change is y. You can use subtraction or you can count boxes.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh so i would have to add the x and y together?

OpenStudy (phi):

I would put my finger on (5,5) and count down 4 boxes, (means change in y is -4) then over +5 (means change in x is +5) then do change in y *divided* by change in x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so,sorry for this, your telling me i have to go down 4 boxes mean the y would be -4 now? and x would stay the same?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

then divied both?

OpenStudy (phi):

do you understand we put our finger on (5,5) and we go "straight down" until "level with" point (10,1) how far we move down is the change in y (and down is a negative number) then we count how far to move "straight sideways" to the right. (right is positive)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 1

OpenStudy (phi):

how ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i put my finger on (5,5) then leveled it with (10,1)

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, but we want to know how many "blocks" we moved. If this were a city, how many blocks do you walk straight down?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh we moved down and you said down is negative (-) so then we went down 4 boxes so it would be -4. correct?

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. make a note: change in y is -4 now move sideways, and count blocks until you get to (10,1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 5

OpenStudy (phi):

so change in x is +5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so now i have to divied those numbers?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yea

OpenStudy (phi):

yes, divide. change in y divided by change in x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got -0.8

OpenStudy (phi):

yes. that is the slope.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks do you mind helping with somemore please

OpenStudy (phi):

If you have time, you can watch Khan's videos. They are helpful https://www.khanacademy.org/math/algebra-basics/core-algebra-graphing-lines-slope/core-algebra-slope/v/slope-of-a-line

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did that and i got confused my brother showed me that place and i got confused

OpenStudy (anonymous):

can you help with a few more plz?

OpenStudy (phi):

I have to go. But you can make a new post and someone will help

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks i think i gave you a medal
