Help with Direct Variation !

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (danjs):

to begin with, a direct variation function takes a form y = k*x where k is a slope, the equation forms a line

OpenStudy (danjs):

So if a function is linear, it is a direct variation

OpenStudy (danjs):

The constant of variation will be the slope of the line through those points

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So the function is not linear?

OpenStudy (danjs):

Can you draw a straight line through those 3 points?

OpenStudy (danjs):

If yes, it is linear

OpenStudy (danjs):

the k value constant of variation will be the slope, namely use 2 of the points (x1,y1) and (x2,y2) and calculate \[m = k = \frac{ y2 - y1 }{ x2 - x1 }\]
