What are the foci of the ellipse? Graph the ellipse. Please help!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2/49+y^2/64=1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it is either A or C

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I am leaning towards A, but I would like to confirm.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

I am in this topic but I'm also searching for the method of calculating the foci of an ellipse.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Thanks for taking the time to help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well can you help?

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

I found an online graphing program for an ellipse. Here's the graphic:

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So I was right, thank you for your time.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I do need help with one more question

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Could you help my last question?

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Well okay. (I never knew about that online graphing program until 2 minutes ago). :-)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is it called?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

What is the standard form equation of the ellipse with vertices at (0,6) and (0,-6) and co-vertices at (4,0) and (-4,0).

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I just need help with this one question and it will be done.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

The online graphing program? http://www.webgraphing.com/ellipse.jsp WOW that does a good job doesn't it? Okay - seems you have posted the other problem.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I really really thank you for your help.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

That website may come in handy later.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

I'm still searchnig for the answer for that question about the vertices.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I as well.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think it's either b or c

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I'm leaning towards B, what do you think?

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

It definitely would be centered at zero (if that helps you at all). I'm still trying to see how to write the equation from vertices and co-vertices. Will you have to get going soon?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, I have a lot of time.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Well I can continue researching how to write the equations. GEEZ - the way websites organize their data and explanations can be really bad.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Just trying to figure this out.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I know, I'm trying to figure it out through mathway, and wolframalpha

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's kind of disgruntling, but with time hopefully I can find the answer.

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

It would be really great IF one website would just state PLAINLY: "if you know the vertices, you generate the equatiion by putting vertex 1 HERE and vertex 2 HERE." but do they do that? NO!!!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Right! The things I hate about these websites is they put too much weight on the java and or shockwave driver, causing your browser to slow down.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Sadly there is nothing you can do about it because it is just a plugin, there would need to be a better website or a new plugin all together.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

There needs to be a website that simplifies it not only for the student, but for the browser.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

But any way, did you find any leads on the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Hey I was right about it being B.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I solved it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

And I got 100%, thanks to you!

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Thanks. I got thrown off Open Study. ARRGGHH!! Well I'm glad you got the answer. Tell you what- I'll give YOU a medal for your patience with me. (I'm usually much quicker that this.)

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

THAN this

OpenStudy (wolf1728):

Well time for me to quit OpenStudy. Maybe I'll see you again. See you later. :-)
