Solve: |y + 8| ≥ 3

OpenStudy (anonymous):

subtract 8 from both sides. y is greater than or equal to -5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

\[\left| x+a \right|\ge b,x+a \le -b~and~x+a \ge b\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You break it into two equations. \(y + 8 \ge 3\) and \(-y - 8 \ge 3\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Can you solve both of those? @RainbowsxD

OpenStudy (misty1212):

\[y+8\ge 3\] or \(y+8\leq -3\)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Misty, the 3 wasn't in absolute value symbols so it wouldn't be 3 or -3. it would be -y - 8 or y + 8.
