OpenStudy (taz007):

My neighborhood is full of one-way streets. To drive from my house to the grocery store, I have to go 1 block south, then 1 block east, then 5 blocks north, then 2 blocks east. Each block is 1/16th of a mile. How much shorter would my trip be if I could fly like a bird? Explain your solution, and give your answer in miles.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Well if you could fly like a bird you wouldnt have to worry about going one way for everything and go straight where you need to go instead of having to make all the turns.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

but i dont know like the miles and stuff.

OpenStudy (taz007):

Yes, I agree that there would be a short cut.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Im not really sure but i think that it would be 3/16th of a mile shorter because its like 9/16 of a mile to the grocery store from the house doing all the turns and stuff. and if you could fly itd make sense i guess. i drew it out. lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

gotta draw a graph, then draw the shortest line possible to the destination
